Meet Kyana Smith

West Bloomfield has shaped both my professional journey and my family's story.

As a parent, I understand the hopes and expectations every family has when they entrust their children to our schools.

Today, I provide executive leadership for one of Michigan's largest public Early Childhood Special Education and Early Intervention programs. In this role, I oversee complex operations, provide strategic direction to multidisciplinary teams, steward multimillion-dollar budgets, and align resources to ensure children and families receive high-quality services.

These responsibilities have given me a deep understanding of district leadership, sound governance, and the importance of making thoughtful decisions that balance student success with long-term financial sustainability.

They have also reinforced my belief that effective leadership means making difficult decisions with integrity, using data to guide action, building consensus, and ensuring every investment creates meaningful outcomes for students.

I am running for the West Bloomfield School Board because I believe every student deserves a free public education, every family deserves a trusted partner, and every dollar entrusted to our schools deserves responsible stewardship.

For more than twenty years, I have served students, families, educators, and communities through leadership grounded in ethical stewardship, collaboration, accountability, and sustainable progress. Throughout my career, I have learned that outstanding schools are built by making thoughtful decisions that balance student achievement, family partnerships, and fiscal responsibility.

As someone who has spent my career serving children and supporting public education, I understand that Michigan's declining enrollment brings real financial challenges. These moments require thoughtful, experienced leadership. I believe we must be responsible stewards of every taxpayer dollar while protecting the high-quality educational opportunities that make West Bloomfield a district families are proud to call home.

I am running to continue serving the community I have proudly called home for more than 18 years, where my husband and I have raised our five children, and to help ensure West Bloomfield Schools remain among Michigan's premier school districts for generations to come.
